What is your relationship with Pausing? Is Pause familiar to you? Uncomfortable? Welcome? Something you avoid? Something you long for? Do you notice when you pause? Do you intentionally pause? In a world that rewards efficiency, productivity and constant motion … where pausing does not naturally have a seat at the table, the practice of pausing is not invited or encouraged. And yet, Pause may offer us a chance to interrupt automatic patterns and habits, to soften our reactions, to notice our bodies and to reconnect to what matters most to us.

Pause can be as brief as a breath – an inhale, and an exhale. It can be the moment when we wake up and, before we habitually reach for our phones, take a minute to simply notice our body – our heartbeat, our breath, our feet, our fingers. Pause can be as spacious as a season of rest.
In that space, something shifts. We gain perspective. We remember that we have a choice in how we respond. Pausing allows us to listen more deeply—both to others and to ourselves. In conversations, it creates room for openness, presence, and for what is wanting to emerge. In conflict, it helps us step out of reactivity and into curiosity. And in moments of overwhelm, it can be the bridge that brings us back to center.
Pausing allows us to listen more deeply—both to others and to ourselves. In conversations, it creates room for openness, presence, and for what is wanting to emerge.
Nature itself models this wisdom. Winter is a long, collective pause—a time of stillness before the renewal of spring. Animals rest. Trees conserve energy. The world slows down. We, too, are part of this rhythm. Yet we often override it, pushing forward when our body, heart, or spirit is asking us to stop and breathe.
Pausing is not doing nothing. It’s the intentional choice to stop doing long enough that we can be — with our truth, with our breath, with whatever is asking to come alive, with the sacredness of the moment.
Watering and nurturing the soil of Pausing creates possibilities for curiosity, connection, compassion, creativity, and clarity to bloom.
I invite you to make friends with Pause. Get to know Pause. Become curious. Invite Pause to live in your body, your heart, your mind and your spirit … even for a moment. Sprinkle moments of Pause throughout your day. And be open to whatever may emerge from becoming friends with Pause.
